ABOUT
Guru Uttara Bhave
Uttara Bhave began her kathak training under the tutelage of Late Guru Mrs. Asha Joglekar and then continued her training from Guru Mrs. Maneesha Sathe. She completed her Advance Diploma in Kathak from Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune.
Uttara has been teaching in Northern Virginia from 2006. She is a dedicated Kathak dancer, teacher and choreographer who is committed to bring dance into the lives of her students with the same abundance of love, patience, and hard work that her mentors displayed.
She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Nrityanaad Academy of Kathak. The academy is affiliated with Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune and offers certificate courses in Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Music and Tabla.
In addition to her dance academy, Uttara is also involved in community events organized by various organizations. She also holds a master’s degree in Information Systems.
Parampara
Guru late Smt. Asha Joglekar was an extraordinary Kathak teacher based in Mumbai, India. She was the disciple of Pandit Gopikrishna ji and Pandita Rohini Bhate. She was soft-spoken, yet firm, and always found the strengths in her students. Her legacy continues through her students across the world.
Guru Pandita Maneesha Sathe is the current torchbearer of the Banaras gharana and is the disciple of Late Pandit Gopikrishna ji. Her style of Kathak teaches precision in hand movements, nuanced abhinaya, and strong footwork. Based in Pune, India, Maneeshaji travels every summer to conduct workshops with Guru Uttara's students. She continues to inspire the Academy with her love and grace for this dance form.
